The Robin Theory
FYI, I don’t lượt thích this theory at all. But it’s worth including so here ya go. There are some (many?) fans that still want to see Ted và Robin over up together. I don’t buy that this will ever happen, but we all have our own theories và ideas. The theory here is that Ted won’t end up with THAT Robin…but he will over up with Robin because The Mother is ANOTHER Robin.
Some people feel that this neatly ties up the pilot episode, which ends with the kids groaning as Ted explains that’s how he met their Aunt Robin. There was no emphasis on the word “aunt” when he said it, but it’s still a little confusing. The whole time the kids thought that he was telling them how he met their mother, but it seems like they should have known from the get-go that this couldn’t possibly be about her…because her name isn’t Robin. So perhaps Ted clarifies this by explaining it’s their Aunt Robin và not their mom Robin. Or, Ted just didn’t specify her name when he told the story lớn the kids. Or, the kids assume he is using a nhái name to lớn obscure The Mother’s identity until the very over of the story.
The Tracy Theory

Some fans felt that the shocked reactions meant the kids believed Future Ted’s story. And instead of saying, “wait, but mom’s name is _____”, the kids just gasped in astonishment. These fans believe that the kids accepted the statement so readily because Ted used The Mother’s actual name – Tracy. Other fans agree with this reasoning but think it indicates that The Mother’s name is Amber. This idea also holds credence khổng lồ some because amber is a shade of yellow, the main symbolic hue of the show and The Mother.
The Emily Theory
In S2E12 “First Time in New York” we met Robin’s little sister, Katie Scherbatsky. She was wearing a nameplate necklace throughout the episode, but it wasn’t her own name that we saw around her neck. The necklace read “Emily”. Why? Who is Emily? This could be completely irrelevant to lớn anything else in HIMYM. I’m just pointing out in advance that this is a particularly long shot. It may relate lớn someone who the actress playing Katie – Lucy Hale – knows or knew. It could also be a little clue as to lớn the name of Robin’s mother. We still don’t know this information, so it is possible that Katie got the necklace from her own mother. It COULD be a very well disguised clue to lớn the name of THE Mother, though! We will have lớn wait & see…
The Kim Theory

Lily: Well, what’s perfect?
Ted: Well, it’s not like I have a list.
Robin: Oh, yes you do.
Ted: Attractive, college educated, she wants two kids; a boy & a girl.
Lily: Oh that’s not hard, I know at least –
Ted: I’m not done. She likes dogs, Otis Redding, does the crossword, she’s into sports but not so much that her legs are lượt thích more muscular than mine, that weirds me out. Và she plays bass guitar, like Kim giảm giá from the Pixies.

We know that The Mother also plays bass guitar and either wants – or is ultimately happy with – having two kids, a boy and a girl. The writers have never revisited this unseen character, so I think the theory still holds water. The point here, though, is that Ted’s dream girl plays bass like “any Kim from any cool band really”. So maybe her name is Kim!
The Marissa Theory – DISPROVED
This is the only theory that offers a first and last name for The Mother – Marissa Heller.
In “Robots versus Wrestlers” (S5E22), we learn that mail for a prior resident (Marissa Heller) has consistently been delivered khổng lồ the apartment ever since Ted và Marshall first moved in. One Redditor posited that elevator-Marissa’s lack of interest means that she wasn’t the real Marissa at all. The real Marissa could have been busy that night – busy being The Mother! The Mother may not be Marissa, but she certainly could have attended Robots Versus Wrestlers. It is a yearly event, after all. But I never had the guts to lớn sneak into any parties the way our characters did in “Robots Vs. Wrestlers.”
This information, plus the timing being incorrect, officially rules out Marissa Heller as the name of the mother!
The Rhiannon Theory:
This concept comes from S7E20 “Trilogy Time”, where we see how the gang imagines themselves three years into the future. This begins in 2000, và Ted predicts that in 2003 he will have an awesome bass playing girlfriend named Rhiannon. They use Robin for this imagined sequence of events, but at this point she just represents Ted’s dream girl & not actually herself.
This scene/episode demonstrates that the imagined name of Ted’s dream girl is Rhiannon. So it could be a fun twist if the writers called back lớn this và made it her actual name. I personally think this theory has a low probability of actually panning out.
The Violet Theory
Ever since season 7, episode 1 we have been seeing a TON of purple clothing in the show. Seriously, nearly every episode since và including that one has had main characters in purple. This has been going on for literally years now. There’s a whole lot to consider in terms of color theory, the symbolism of purple, how purple and yellow are complementary colors on the color wheel, etc. Some fans have a simple explanation for all the purple – maybe The Mother’s name is Violet. How sweet would that be?! I like this theory just because it makes all of the speculation about the purple washing of the show much easier to understand. It seems a little too easy, though, so it’s probably not too likely.
The Cristin Theory
This one is pretty easy-peasy: the actress playing The Mother is named Cristin, so perhaps The Mother shares the same name. It could also be a fun callback lớn S8E24 (season 8 finale) “Something New”. This episode showed Barney và Robin celebrating being engaged and about to lớn be married. Then, a super annoying couple at the restaurant ruins some of their fun và are thus determined to be Barney và Robin’s arch rivals. The woman – played by Casey Wilson – was named Krirsten. No, that’s not a typo. It’s Krirsten with two Rs. The writers could use both of these factors khổng lồ make The Mother’s name more significant. But, I think they will go further outside the box than that.
Note – At some point, someone posted about how there is a picture frame in Cindy’s (Rachel Bilson’s) apartment that she shared with The Mother. Supposedly the frame said “C+C”. Since Cindy is the one roommate, many guessed that the other roommate (The Mother) must also have a name that starts with C.
The problem is that nobody can actually find a screen cap of this moment and I don’t think it even exists. I believed in it when it first came to light, so I was not exempt from getting caught up in the theory! But, I don’t think it’s real at all. And even if it were, it could be a small Easter egg referencing the show’s writers, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.
The Daisy Theory – DISPROVED
This is the only theory that relies on past và future episodes, & there’s some real potential with it. This idea came about from the title of the last show in the series: Season 9, episode trăng tròn “Daisy”. Many female characters have flower inspired names. The Leia Theory
Ted mentioned early on that he would love lớn name his kids Luke and Leia. As a huge Star Wars fan, Ted was really into this idea. As of S9E15 “Unpause”, however, we know that his daughter is not named Leia – she’s named Penny. Why wasn’t she named Leia? Some speculate it’s because The Mother is named Leia! How perfect would that be for Ted? Her age – let’s give a wide range và guess it’s between 25 & 35 – means that she could easily have been named by Star Wars fanatic parents. It seems unlikely, but it’s as possible as any other name at this point.
The Rose Theory:
At the kết thúc of S9E16 “How Your Mother Met Me”, The Mother plays the ukulele và sings La Vie En Rose. This can be in reference to The Mother being absent from Ted’s life, and him constantly wondering when he will find his match. It also reflects how Ted can have a happy job, social life, etc, (his “bird” equivalents) but without his true love, “life don’t mean a thing”.
UPDATE: The Bob Dylan song “If You See Her Say Hello” played during a scene at the end of Sp
E19 ‘Vesuvius”, which many fans found khổng lồ be a seemingly pivotal moment in the show. This is the moment when Ted gets choked up discussing a mother missing her daughter’s wedding. We don’t know yet if this indicates something dire for one of our main characters, but it was quite a powerful scene.

Ted từng quên tên bạn mình từng tán tỉnh và hẹn hò (Blah Blah), gặp gỡ và hẹn hò với học viên ở vị trí anh ta dạy dỗ học, không tôn trọng chủ kiến của Stella – dẫn tới sự việc bị bỏ lại trong nhà thờ, mang kệkhuyên nhủ của bằng hữu để gặp gỡ và hẹn hò với Jeanette cố ý rình mò anh ta cả năm trời, đánh tráo thông tin kín của một cô gái ở vị trí chính giữa mai côn trùng và tìm về cô chỉ để thuyết phục cô ấy say mê mình, mặc dù biết cô này đã đính hôn.
Những hành động sởn gai ốc được series hữu tình hóa bằng những cử chỉ thổ lộ tình yêu thương hoành tráng, mê mệt tình của Ted Mosby. Bọn họ tiếp tục coi Ted là mẫu các bạn trai lý tưởng. Hãy ngưng suy nghĩ này lại đi, bắt đầu từ bây giờ. Câu nói “tôi là 1 chàng trai tốt” với giấc mơ thanh khiết nhất số đông thời đại khiến cho Ted Mosby đến phép phiên bản thân tùy một thể với những cô nàng mình từng hứa hẹn hò. Đối cùng với Ted, hành vi của anh ta đâu thể tệ hại được lúc mục đích sau cuối là đi tìm tình yêu đích thực. Anh ta quá bận đi tìm khía cạnh phù hợp với tiêu chuẩn chỉnh anh ta đặt ra trong họ. Anh ta tìm kiếm được chứ, mà lại đó chỉ với một trong nhiều mảnh ghép trong đối thủ mà thôi.
Kết luận thông thường là Ted Mosby rất tồi tệ trong biện pháp đối xử với chúng ta gái. Cạnh bên đó, Ted cũng thể hiện bạn dạng thân không tồn tại khả năng chấp nhận lời phủ nhận và hiện tại thực. Cùng với những tình yêu của mình, Ted cũng bộc lộ tính đạo đức giả và là một trong người chúng ta tồi tệ. Vậy, nguyên nhân trong xuyên suốt 9 mùa phim, đa phần người coi vẫn bị lừa bởi chàng trai kiến trúc sư này?
Vì Ted Mosby thuộc đẳng cấp nhân vật tràn lan trong các bộ phim rom-com. Một người bầy ông nhạy cảm cảm và tràn trề tình yêu, dẫu vậy luôn là kẻ chịu thiệt vì bản tính nhân hậu của mình. Hiển nhiên, theo phim, những người dân ‘trai tốt’ như họ đáng được yêu thương hoặc được đáp trả tình cảm. Phim hình ảnh từ lâu vẫn củng chũm mệnh đề này thông qua việc biến đổi họ thành hero luôn giành được những cô gái, vô tình đề ra khuôn mẫu bầy ông nên hành xử trong tình yêu. Nhưng biểu tượng này đã bội nghịch họ. Mặt tối của một trai tốt, ít nhất là khi anh ta được thể hiện trong phim, nằm ở trong phần anh ta vốn là 1 hình mẫu lãng mạn độc hại.
Trước lúc Ted được bầu nghén, một ‘trai tốt’ được biết đến nhiều nhất trong những năm 90 đến nay là Ross Geller của series F.R.I.E.N.D.S (Friends). Văn bản của Friends cũng tương tự với HIMYM, số đông xoay xung quanh một nhóm đồng bọn 6 fan tung hứng cuộc sống đời thường và các mối tình dục ở thành phố New York. Trong nhóm, Ross Geller là nhân vật biết tới hình mẫu tạo sự Ted Mosby bọn họ biết hiện tại nay.
Ross được xem như là thành viên thông minh tuyệt nhất và trưởng thành và cứng cáp nhất trong đội bạn, vì chưng anh này là 1 trong những giáo sư với ngay từ đầu đã thành hôn với 2 người con xinh xắn. Ross cũng khá được định hình vày khao khát một gia đình hoàn hảo như Ted khi cuộc hôn nhân gia đình đầu đổ vỡ. Trắc trở là Ross cũng coi mình là 1 ‘trai tốt’ nhân danh khát khao này. Tương tự như Ted, Ross cũng có cho mình một “nạn nhân” – Rachel.
Mối tình thân Ross và Rachel là giữa những tuyến truyện lâu dài nhất series. Trên bề mặt, ái tình này được xem như là một tình yêu mập mạp đầy chông gai giữa 2 người yêu nhau. Dẫu vậy nếu chú ý sâu hơn, Rachel cần mất trí mới đi yêu thương Ross, chứ đừng nói tới việc kết duyên với anh ta. Ross đối xử rất tệ với Rachel như hay xuyên kiểm soát cô, ghen tuông tuông vô lý, ko tôn trọng ý kiến của cô cùng không thể đồng ý sự tự do sau này của Rachel. Tuy nhiên anh ta vẫn có được cô gái trong mơ bởi được xác minh là một ‘trai tốt’ đối chọi thuần sa vào lưới tình. Nói bí quyết khác, ham tình đổi mới khiên chắn góp Ross tấn công lạc hướng người khác khỏi tính cách tự huyễn, ích kỷ, cùng nỗi bất an luôn luôn ngự trị vào mình. Ví như chỉ bản thân Rachel không đủ minh chứng cho điều này, thì vẫn có những nạn nhân khác của Ross làm điều đó, ví dụ nổi bật là Emily.
Một lấy ví dụ nữa chứng minh điện ảnh đã kinh dị hóa ‘trai tốt’ trong câu chuyện của anh ta là tất cả những người các bạn nam của Sheldon Cooper vào The Big Bang Theory. Leonard thường xuyên chỉ trích trí thông minh của nữ giới Amy. Howl và Raj tiếp tục có hầu như ý nghĩ về khá bệnh về phụ nữ, như câu hỏi do thám các chị em đẹp bởi vệ tinh quân sự.

Nhưng cho 2018, hình ảnh của ‘trai tốt’ dần dần trở về đúng với thực chất đáng hại của nó. You (2018 - ) là bộ phim truyền hình tiên phong cho điều này. Joe, nhân vật chính của series, xuất hiện một mọt ám ảnh với Guinevere Beck và quyết định cưa đổ cô thiếu phụ bằng bài toán đóng vai một ‘trai tốt’ nhạy bén cảm, dễ dàng thương, tình cảm, với thấu hiểu. Tuy thế cử chỉ thơ mộng của Joe không thể bít dấu tính chất ép buộc của cảm xúc hắn giành riêng cho Beck. Joe bên cạnh đó là kết quả đó của toàn bộ các ‘trai tốt’ rơi lệch từng mở ra trên màn ảnh: ko thể đồng ý lời tự chối, áp để tình cảm, không yên tâm ngầm, kiểm soát, đạo đức giả, cùng nhân danh tình yêu để biện minh cho các hành vi sai trái.Nhìn chung, tại sao Joe không vươn lên là hình thành Ted bởi vì You là phim tâm lý kịch tính, còn HIMYM là phim hài kịch.
Tóm lại là fan xem cực tốt đừng tin lời những biên kịch về hình ảnh ‘trai tốt’ chúng ta vẽ lên nữa, nhưng mà hãy nhìn hành vi của họ theo cái nhìn thực tiễn hơn để khẳng định đúng độ tốt. Với nếu có chạm chán Ted quanh đó đời thực, thì bạn hãy chạy ngay đi!
