As of now, there has been no concrete news about a live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan. The only live-action adaptations of the franchise that have been out are the two movies that came out in năm trước and 2015, respectively.

Attack on Titan: Crimson Bow and Arrow was released back in 2014, while Attack on Titan: The Movie - Part 2: end of the World was released in 2015. Following that, there have been repeated rumors about future live-action adaptations, but the same hasn"t come khổng lồ fruition.

However, the franchise had a musical theater adaptation called Attack on Titan: The Musical, the music for which was provided by KEN the 390. The musical was initially developed in năm 2016 but was later canceled after an accident took the life of a crew member.

Later in 2022, the project was revived as fans received the news positively. While fans and Mangaka Hajime Isayama were worried about the production due to the previous incident, the project went smoothly as it took place between January 7 and January 24.

What are the differences between the manga & the live-action adaptation?

*
While the filmmakers initially wanted to stay faithful to the manga, series author Hajime Isayama suggested numerous changes to the source material. He wanted khổng lồ make the movie shorter than the series và tried khổng lồ make it a standalone story, separate from the manga.

Thus, there were several changes khổng lồ the live-action adaptation, starting with the change in location as the story was based in Japan, as opposed to lớn a German-like setting. Other changes to the movies include adding new/different characters to the story, the most noticeable one being the addition of a character named Shikishima instead of Levi Ackerman.

In addition, unlike the manga series, which saw Eren pass away after becoming the Founding Titan, the live-action adaptation saw him be with Mikasa as they ended up together. Thus, the live-action adaptation does have some tư vấn from fans, although it has altered a lot from the original events of the manga.

While two live-action Japanese movies were released back in 2015, fans stated that the movie differed greatly from the anime and the actual source material. The movie had an altered storyline & had introduced some new characters. This received a little disapproval from the fans but critics also enjoyed the movie’s on-screen effects and cinematography. With part two of the Japanese live-action movie ending with a post-credit scene, fans were speculating if there will ever be a part three but at this point, it’s highly unlikely.

IT & Flash director Andy Muschietti
However, after the record-breaking box-office of the ‘IT’ movie, director Andy Muschietti was tapped by Kodansha và Warner Bros Pictures to direct a live-action ‘Attack On Titan’ movie on which he gave a big nod. First of all, I want to lớn thank all the individuals who put great effort into making today a reality. Thank you for everything you’ve done so far, & please continue to support us from now on.”

The director is still busy wrapping up the upcoming Flash movie which is set khổng lồ release in the fall of 2022, more likely in the month of November. However, there is still a big question — When will the AOT movie start filming?

Since 2019, there haven’t been any talks or discussions on the topic but that doesn’t mean that the director hasn’t had any wonderful ideas in his mind. With the Flash movie coming later this year, the film’s pre-production is expected to lớn begin anytime between the fall of 2023 and the autumn of 2024. It’s an awfully long wait but since Hollywood is doing it, it will be worth be it.
